Dr Anthony Hogan, is a fully qualified Rehabilitation Counsellor. Dr Anthony provides one-on-one counselling for people with partial hearing loss and/or
tinnitus. He also runs easier listening workshops. These are skills based workshops involving five to six people like yourself and their partners. In these workshops we:

• Identify common problems caused by hearing loss (e.g. listening in background noise)
• Recognise how hearing loss impacts on you and your family
• Learn and practice a series of communication strategies which will help make it easier for you to listen in social situations which most people with partial hearing loss find difficult.

The easier listening workshops utilise acceptance and commitment training techniques, a form of cognitive behavioral therapy. Research shows that at the end of these workshops participants generally are more aware of their hearing problems, and are more confident in their ability to manage them. Dr Anthony does not sell hearing aids or other listening devices.

Fees

Pre-group assessment (20 minutes) $40
Group sessions $20 per session – partners attend free of charge.
50 minute one-on-one counselling sessions $120.00

Your Privacy

At your first visit I will ask you to provide me with some information about you manage your hearing loss as well as personal contact details. I will keep this information in paper files and use it to evaluate your progress. On your request, I may provide this information to another health professional. In group based therapies you will be invited to share your personal experiences with others. Most people find this a really valuable and life changing experience.

Warnings and Disclaimer

Most hearing loss is caused by the ageing process or exposure to a lot of noise over time. However, some hearing loss can be caused by disease processes, some of which can be very serious. If you believe you have a hearing loss, you are advised to consult a hearing health profession for a full and proper medical assessment of any hearing problem you may have. A list of Ear, Noise and Throat specialists as well as audiologists and audiometrists can be found in the yellow pages.
The medical research shows that your best hearing health outcome results from using hearing aids in conjunction with communication strategies such as those taught in the easier listening workshops.
